  • Lagging while running streaming apps.

    Good morning

This lagging during streaming has been happening for quite a while, it's the major reason I don't stream now. I would really like to do some investigation as to how to remedy this problem.

    My system stats:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 5950X (running 4.66 GHz)
GPU AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT OC 12GB (ver. 22.2.1)
    RAM: DDR4 16GB 3200 MHz (DOCP)
    OS: Windows 10 Pro (21H2 - 19044.1526)

When I use streaming software (SLOBS and Chatbot) is the only time I see this problem arise. Do I have a setup config problem somewhere? I'm wondering if I have too low of a priority setting for VoiceAttack or something along those lines.

Thank you for helping to get me streaming. It's been a big problem for a long time.

It could be one of several things that are causing this

    1) the resolution of the stream that you are trying to encode to (ie are you trying to stream at 1080p / 4K resolution?)
    2) It could just be that the game(s) that you are running are pegging your CPU / GPU too much in the first place.
    3) the bitrate of the stream that you are trying to encode to (ie are you trying to encode at 6000KBPS or 2500KPBS? )
    4) The resolution of the game that you are trying to *capture* (ie if it is a 4K resolution window, this will take more effort to capture / encode then a normal 1080p monitor)

Streaming has many moving parts, which can affect what you are able to achieve on a machine.

Side note: A long time back, when I tried SLOBS I found that whilst it was *Faster* to get up and running compared to OBS (although OBS is now easy to get set up as well) its performance was, how to put politely, a bit crap. Its UI should not be lagging to do normal things. So I kept on going to back to using OBS when I needed it to capture something.

    2) Not to be used when upset... will void warranty
    3) Stoke me a clipper i will be back for dinner
    4) Never tell Gangrel to do anything... he will probably get it wrong

      Good day to you again,

I would like to report that I changed from SLOBS to OBS Studio. This alone reduced system lag and CPU load by 1/2, but I also disabled the AMD Radeon Software that was running in the background. Also, I updated any 'system' software and drivers associated with VA and Elite Dangerous. There is still a problem with the microphone being detected, but I feel that maybe the USB headset I'm using (Logitech G935). Considering a new microphone/headphone setup entirely.

There is still a big of a lag with the VoiceAttack response times, not as bas as it was before. As you said... OBS Studio is a lot less of a resource hog. Thanks for pointing me in that direction.... MUCH appreciated.

      Regards,

With the HEadset front, if it is a case of not being detected when you swing the arm down (ie to unmute it), I believe that this was resolved in an update with the Logitech G-Hub software.

Again, I am not 100% sure on this one, as this is more in the VA support side; which whilst we can offer some support on that front, as we are not the developers of VoiceAttack itself, this is limited in range / knowledge

Just posting a little thing that happened today... which seems to have alleviated all my previously posted problems.

About 3 weeks ago I had to send back my new Asrock RX 6700 XT because all of the DisplayPorts quit working. They send back a warranty replacement. During the waiting period I was using a Strix GTX 1080 and when I got the replacement I reinstalled the card and updated to the current drivers.

Then the problems arose.... artifacts in the display... sound issues with my Voicemeeter software... etc. So, then I decided to do FULL battle mode and uninstall all drivers (GPU and Audio) with DDU uninstaller. Reinstall to most current releases of the drivers and BOOOOOM! No more issues. Logitech microphone is also working like it should be, and the lag with VoiceAttack while streaming is now gone.

Again, thank you for all the help in getting back to a stable and working/productive system. So much appreciated for pointing me in a direction I could work with.
